Fluorescent Direct Smears Positive: Apple-green fluorescence in two or more cells. Negative: No fluorescence or fluorescence in one or fewer cells per high-powered field (400x). Cell Culture Isolation Positive: Culture tube exhibiting apple-green fluorescence in 5 or more foci of VZV-infected cells. Negative: Culture tube exhibiting apple-green fluorescence in less than 5 foci of VZV-infected cells. |
