dsDNA

Anti-double stranded DNA (dsDNA) is a specific type of antinuclear antibody (ANA) that is found in about 30% of people with systemic lupus, and it is produced when a person's immune system fails to distinguish between "self" and "non-self" cellular components. Less than 1% of healthy individuals have this antibody. Anti-dsDNA tests are carried out after a patient tests positive for antinuclear antibody (ANA) and has clinical signs and symptoms that suggest lupus. Immunoassays using recombinant double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) are used for the combined quantitative detection of IgG, IgA, and IgM antibodies against dsDNA in human serum.
