Horse Allergen
Over 16 horse allergens have been isolated to date with Equus caballus 1 (Equ c 1), a lipocalin, identified as the main antigen responsible for about 80% of anti-horse IgE antibody response in patients who are chronically exposed to horse allergens. Horse allergens appear to be as problematic as cat allergens causing severe reactions, and current natural horse dander, hair, and skin scrapings used for allergic testing are variable, may be contaminated with other components, and are not standardized. Recombinant Equ c 1 is ideal for developing allergen-specific IgE testing that will not be prone to false-positive results.
