Cryptococcus

Cryptococcus is a type of fungus that can cause infections in humans and animals. The most common species that cause disease in humans are Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii. These fungi can infect the lungs and cause pneumonia and can also spread to other parts of the body, such as the brain, where they can cause meningitis. Cryptococcal infections are most commonly seen in people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS.
