Dog Allergen

Dog hair and dander and urine are complex mixtures containing a number of allergenic proteins and two allergens, Can f 1 and Can f 5 have been identified to be allergens to cause an IgE allergic reaction in humans. Can f 1 is the primary allergen in dog dander and saliva and is a member of the lipocalin superfamily that represents the majority of allergens associated with pets. The expression of Can f 1 in saliva is known to differ across dog breeds. Can f 5 is a prostatic kallikrein component of dog hair and dander which is produced by intact male dogs and approximately 70% of dog-allergic individuals demonstrate IgE reactivity to Can f 5. Sensitization to Can f 5 and Can F1 is associated with asthma and rhinoconjunctivitis symptoms and can contribute to poly-sensitization in individuals with IgE responses to multiple animal allergen molecules. Recombinant forms of Can f 1 and Can f 5 are for allergen-specific IgE testing to detect sensitivity to major dog allergens.
