LV-PVA Stool Transport

• Polyvinyl alcohol is a water-soluble plastic, which when combined with Schaudin’s fixative, provides an excellent preservative-fixative for protozoan trophozoites
• The resulting permanent slide lends itself to commonly used staining procedures such as iron-hematoxylin or Wheatley’s trichrome
• Low viscosity mixture allows easier miscibility of the specimen, better fixation due to faster penetration, faster drying, and superior film clarity

10% Formalin Stool Transport

• Para-Pak 10% Formalin preserved specimens may be examined directly and concentrated for recovery of eggs, larvae, and protozoan cysts
