Shiga Toxin

Shiga toxin is a potent toxin produced by Shigella dysenteriae and some strains of Escherichia coli (particularly E. coli O157). It can cause severe gastrointestinal illness, including dysentery, severe diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Shiga toxin works by inhibiting protein synthesis in cells, leading to cell death and tissue damage.
