TBE

Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) is a viral disease transmitted by infected woodland ticks that is common in Central and Eastern Europe, and Northern Asia. It can cause severe central nervous system complications such as meningitis, encephalitis or meningoencephalitis. Over the past three decades, reported cases have increased by 400% and there is no specific treatment for the disease. Diagnosis is by detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to the virus in serum or cerebral spinal fluid.
