EGF
Epidermal Growth Factor Protein (EGF) is a growth factor with potential use as a cardiac biomarker due to its role in the proliferation of cardiac stem cells. Research suggests that the heart has an endogenous reserve of cardiac stem cells (CSCs) which can be activated by various growth factors to reconstitute the injured myocardium. EGF has been shown to significantly promote the proliferation, migration, and wound healing activities of this CSCs in comparison to the other growth factors.
