OXA-48
Among multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, carbapenemase-producing bacteria are a major threat to our health system because of resistance to most or all β-lactam antibiotics and a lack of therapeutic options. OXA-48 is one of the most prevalent carbapenemases worldwide with the highest prevalence in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. OXA-48 enzymes lead to carbapenem resistance and are most often found in E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
