Gastrin Antibodies and Antigens
Gastrin is a peptide hormone produced primarily in the stomach's G-cells, located in the gastric antrum. Its main function is to stimulate the secretion of gastric acid (HCl) by the parietal cells in the stomach, aiding in the digestion of food. Gastrin also promotes gastric motility and growth of the stomach lining. It is released in response to food intake, particularly protein, and plays a crucial role in regulating the digestive process. Abnormal levels of gastrin can lead to conditions like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, characterized by excessive acid production.
