Empowering Molecular Point-of-Care Diagnostics with Timesaving, Cost-Effective, and Ambient-Stable Chemistries

August 18, 2025 | 09:30 am EDT
Track: Enabling Point-of-Care Diagnostics – https://www.nextgenerationdx.com/point-of-care-diagnostics

Summary/Abstract:

Point-of-care diagnostics are reshaping how and where patients access healthcare. However, challenges around enzyme stabilization, cost, and logistics can limit their reach. In this session, William Ferreira explores how established and emerging molecular techniques—like qPCR, isothermal amplification, and NGS—can be adapted using ambient-stable reagents to enable rapid, scalable, and cost-effective testing at the point of care. Discover how Meridian’s technologies support the development of assays suitable for clinical labs, pharmacies, and at-home use.

Speaker Bio:

William is an R&D Team Leader at Meridian Life Science. He earned his PhD in molecular microbiology in 2019, investigating C. difficile pathogenesis at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. Subsequently, he held the position of Senior Scientist at Sporegen Ltd, leading diverse research projects rooted in recombinant spore technology. With more than 8 years of expertise in developing molecular assays for clinical use, William is a vital asset within Meridian’s R&D team. His role involves spearheading the creation of cutting-edge molecular products for the global diagnostic industry.
