Macro-CON^® Stool Concentration System

Description

• The filtration unit consists of a 50 mL conical centrifuge tube capped with a flanged adapter incorporating a plastic mesh screen
• Preserved stool is first thoroughly mixed with a surfactant which helps reduce adhesive forces and break down fecal aggregates, thus freeing parasites
• Filtering the specimen through the Macro-CON filter removes large clumps and debris. This is facilitated by the unique venting process which allows for air exchange between the tube and vial as the extracted material filters into the centrifuge tube. The simple design of Macro-CON insures trouble free performance and less clogging
• Emulsification of the sample with ethyl acetate extracts much of the fecal lipids
• After centrifugation the lipid plug and excess ethyl acetate are decanted leaving a packed sediment enriched with parasite eggs, larvae, trophozoites and cysts
