Bacterial infections pose a major threat to global health. Accurately detecting the presence of microbes is important in many industries in order to prevent contamination of food, air, and water or to identify the source of infection in a medical setting. Traditional methods of bacterial detection such as culture, are effective but can take hours or days to show results. There are newer, more rapid, and cost-effective methods of microbial detection such as lateral flow tests which are essential in resource-poor settings as they streamline the process and increase rates of detection.
