LV-PVA Stool Transport

• Polyvinyl alcohol is a water soluble plastic which when combined with Schaudin’s fixative provides an excellent preservative-fixative for protozoan trophozoites
• The resulting permanent slide lends itself to commonly used staining procedures such as iron-hematoxylin or Wheatley’s trichrome
• Low viscosity mixture allows easier miscibility of the specimen, better fixation due to faster penetration, faster drying and superior film clarity

10% Formalin Stool Transport

• Para-Pak 10% Formalin preserved specimens may be examined directly and concentrated for recovery of eggs, larvae, and protozoan cysts

C&S Stool Transport

• Para-Pak C&S is a modification of Cary-Blair, which utilizes an isotonic non-nutritive, buffered solution to insure survival of bacterial pathogens and prevent overgrowth by commensal organisms
• A pH indicator is incorporated to indicate acidic conditions in the tube which are not optimal for recovery of the organisms in question
