Title: Development of a Rapid, Sensitive, and Specific RNA Amplification Method for Point-of-Care Detection of Tuberculosis

Early and accurate diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health challenge, particularly in low-resource settings. This study evaluated the feasibility of detecting M. tuberculosis RNA directly from minimally processed biofluids—saliva, sputum, and blood—using NASBA with molecular beacon-based real-time detection under isothermal conditions. The approach showed strong potential for rapid, sensitive TB detection at the point of care, with results delivered in under 30 minutes.

About the Speaker

Thomas Fouqueau, Ph.D. is an R&D Manager for Meridian Life Science.

Thomas obtained a Ph.D. in 2013 in biochemistry and molecular biology
while studying the catalytic activities of thermostable RNA polymerases at
University of Regensburg, Germany. He later extended his research interest by
exploring the global modulation of cellular transcriptio11 by viral i11fection
in extremophiles using structural and genomic approaches at University
College London, UK. With over 12 years’ experience working with and
optimizing qPCR and LAMP assays, Thomas now runs a team focused
on developing new innovative qPCR and LAMP mixes used by the global
diagnostic industry for the development of diagnostic kits.
