Mugwort

Mugwort is a member of the daisy family and is native to Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. It produces a large amount of wind-borne pollen, and it is the main cause of allergic reactions in Europe, where it affects roughly 10 - 15 percent of patients suffering from pollinosis. Six mugwort pollen allergens have been characterized to date with Art v 1 recognized as the major allergen. In the Mediterranean area, Art v 3 is a second major mugwort allergen, with a reported prevalence of sensitization of 36 - 86% among Spanish mugwort allergic individuals. Recombinant mugwort allergens are ideal for allergen-specific IgE testing to detect sensitivity to mugwort pollen.
